As a Learning Commons Learning Assistant, I was assigned to a course of my choosing that any professor of my choice taught. For this experience I was required to attend lectures and hold a weekly office hour in the Learning Commons Math and Science Support Center, also known as the MASS Center. In Lecture I was given the task of assisting the Professor and the students. That included answering questions, passing out papers, proctoring exams, and more. During my office hour, I was tasked with providing supplemental instruction to students who made the effort to show up. I also provided extra exam help materials from time to time. This experience taught me how to form a good relationship with faculty as well as different facilitation styles when working with students. This experience has taught me how to properly prepare for tutoring sessions as well as how to prepare and organize academic materials. It has also given me the opportunity to brush up on course content that is very relevant to my degree. Due to my time as a Learning Assistant, I know that I want to spend the rest of my time at the university giving students the academic help they need especially in the course that I know I can offer the most help.
