My Gateway Experience

My highschool track career taught me many valuable lessons. My main event was high jump and when I first tried it in 10th grade my skills were very subpar. However, with the potential people saw in me I refused to quit. By the end of sophomore season I had finally seen glimpses of my potential. When junior year came around the state meet was my only focus. It was an opportunity to prove that I could live up to the hype and potential that others saw in me. Especially with talks of me breaking the school record and making top 3 at the state meet. Imagine how devastated I was when the COVID-19 outbreak took that season away from me. By the time my senior season rolled around I had a fire in me that I had never had before. It was my last chance to live up to the hype. In my eyes there was a school record on the line as well as a spot as a top 3 high jumper in the state of Ohio. After months of hard work I had finally made it to state only for me to get 8th place. I also ended the season 3 inches off from breaking the school record. Regardless, this experience taught me the hard work and dedication needed to reach a long term goal. These are skills that I have used many times in my undergraduate career and I often credit this experience for my academic success.
